This is one author with many talents under her belt. With degrees in Zoology, Marine Biology and and Ph.D in Quantitative Behavioural Ecology, her hit series Outlander has taken the world by storm. If you read the books, you can see her knowledge of her many academic achievements portrayed through her main character Claire.
She was a university professor teaching scientific computation before turning to writing fiction. She’s written many scientific articles and textbooks, and even created her own publication, Science Software Quarterly. In the late 70’s she even wrote comic books for Walt Disney!
Another surprising tidbit? When Gabaldon first started writing Outlander, she had never been to Scotland. She created the world of Outlander all through library research! Once she got the chance to go however, she did and has been back several times since then, including the Outlander TV series set (as she is the co-producer and advisor to the show).
Gabaldon currently lives in Arizona with her husband, dachshunds, cats and parakeets. Her next book, the ninth in the Outlander series, is just about to be released, Go Tell the Bees that I Am Gone. Be sure to check it out if you’re all caught up!
