“Writing itself was a magical act in which imagination altered reality and gave form to power.” ~ The Rules of Magic

Happy Spooky Month, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! That’s why I decided to put the spotlight on the beautiful and talented white witch, Alice Hoffman, for this month’s Author of the Month.

Born in New York in 1952, Alice Hoffman is the author of over 30 works of fiction. Her first novel Property Of was published when she was only twenty one (my god, I wish).

Along with many accomplished and renowned reads, her novel Practical Magic was made into a movie starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock. Another childhood classic, Aquamarine, was also converted into a movie starring Emma Roberts. Her magical words have enchanted many and have kept me captive on multiple occasions.

Her works have been seen in The New York Times, The Boston Globe Magazine, Kenyon Review, The Los Angeles Times, Architectural Digest, Harvard Review, Ploughshares, Faerie Magazine and more. Her newest novel, Magic Lessons, further explores the world of Practical Magic, focusing on Maria Owens and her incredible life and lineage.

If you really want to be swept into a beautiful world with magic around every corner, I would highly suggest reading one (or more!) of Hoffman’s many novels.
