“So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be.” ~ The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Welcome to the new year, everybody! I hope it found you healthy, happy and secure in the fact that it is indeed a new year, and anything is possible.

January’s Author of the Month is Stephen Chbosky. If you were anything like me in high school, quiet, retrospective, sorta had their nose up, you might have read The Perks of Being a Wallflower by him, and fallen in love with the main character, Charlie.

The quote “and in that moment, I swear we were infinite” was a hot one to throw around on Instagram and Facebook status’ but boy did it hit you where it counted. I think every teenager at that time really understood that quote, really felt it. That is the power of Chbosky’s novel.

Stephen Chbosky grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and produced his first film, The Four Corners of Nowhere after attending the University of California’s Filmic Writing Program. He went on to win numerous awards for his films and screenplays and was even the one to write the screenplay for the movie adaptation of The Perks of Being A Wallflower (no wonder why it was so good!).

He scripted the live action “Beauty & the Beast,” adapted another beloved book to film, “Wonder,” and his most recent novel, “Imaginary Friend,” dived into new territory for him: horror. I am definitely checking this one out!

In an interview about his latest novel, he stated that Stephen King is his “favorite writer of all time.”
